Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 21, 2026

This policy explains what information Lingora ("Lingora", "we", "us"), operator of lingora.dev, collects when you use our website and app, how we use it, and the choices you have. If you have questions, contact [email protected].

1. Information we collect

Account information. If you sign in with Google, GitHub or an email link, we receive your name, email address and profile picture (avatar) from that provider, plus a provider account identifier. We never receive your Google or GitHub password.

Learning progress. Your courses, XP, streaks, lesson history, settings and similar app data are stored locally in your browser. If you use a guest or signed-in account, this data is also synced to our cloud storage (Vercel Blob) so you can restore it and use it across devices.

Technical information. Like most websites, our hosting provider processes basic request data (such as IP address, browser type and timestamps) to deliver and secure the service.

2. Microphone and speech

Pronunciation and speaking exercises use your microphone only when you start them and grant permission. Audio is processed on your device by your browser to score your pronunciation. We do not record, upload or store your voice audio.

Some browsers may use their own speech-recognition services; their handling of audio is governed by the browser provider's privacy terms. You can turn off speaking exercises in Profile → Settings at any time.

3. How we use information

We use your information to provide and personalise lessons, save and sync your progress, show leaderboards and friends features, send reminders you opt into, respond to support requests, and keep the service secure and working.

4. Push notifications

If you enable reminders, your browser gives us a push subscription endpoint, which we store to send practice reminders. You can turn notifications off at any time in the app or your browser settings, which stops further reminders.

5. Cookies and sessions

We use a secure, HTTP-only session cookie to keep you signed in, and short-lived cookies to protect the sign-in flow. We use browser local storage to save your progress on your device. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

6. Sharing and selling

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising. We share data only with service providers that help us run Lingora, such as Vercel (hosting and storage), sign-in providers you choose (Google, GitHub), our email provider for sign-in links, and, when available, our payment provider. We may also disclose information if required by law.

7. Payments

Paid subscriptions (Lingora Plus and Max) are processed by Polar (polar.sh) as merchant of record. Polar collects and processes your payment details under its own privacy policy; Lingora does not receive or store your card number. We receive and store your subscription tier, status, renewal date and Polar customer and subscription IDs, and we share your account email and Lingora user ID with Polar so your purchase is linked to your account.

8. Data retention and deletion

We keep your account and progress data while your account is active. You can reset progress in Profile → Settings and clear local data by signing out or clearing your browser storage.

To delete your cloud account and synced data, email [email protected] from the address linked to your account. We will confirm and complete deletion within 30 days, except for information we must keep by law.

9. Security

We use HTTPS, signed session tokens and access-controlled storage to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information.

10. Children

Lingora is intended for a general audience. Children under 13 (or the minimum age in their country) should use Lingora only with a parent or guardian's consent. If you believe a child has given us personal information without consent, contact us and we will delete it.

11. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export or delete your personal information, or to object to certain processing. To exercise them, email [email protected].

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the new version on this page and update the date above. Significant changes will be highlighted in the app.
